a 68-year-old woman
who was involved in a multi-vehicle collision and sustained fractures of
her hip and femur. She was treated with open-reduction internal fixation
of both fractures. Postoperatively, she initially did well and was sent
to a rehabilitation unit. However, after 6 days she returned,
presenting with dyspnea and continuous, mild, pleuritic right-sided
chest pain that worsened with deep inspiration but was otherwise not
relieved or exacerbated by any specific factors.
