BACKGROUND
An 85-year-old man presents for an evaluation of an enlarging growth on the superior helix of his right ear. The growth has been present for the past 4 months. The patient denies having pain, bleeding, or drainage from the lesion. Other than a history of numerous skin cancers and actinic keratoses, he has no other significant medical conditions.
On physical examination, the patient has a pink papule surmounted by a 2-cm hyperkeratotic, digitate papule on the right superior helix. He has no tenderness, bleeding, or exudate. Numerous actinic keratoses are present over the patient's left forearm, left pinna, and left nasal sidewall. No cervical lymphadenopathy is found. Findings from the remainder of the physical examination are unremarkable.
